So You Guys Race Mowers Huh?

Perhaps one of the biggest comments we get from people is whether we're serious. Yup. We started our group almost 3 years ago and have since grown from just a few people to almost 15. We currently have 2 races per month from April to October ( see schedule) as well as a smattering of fairs, parades, and other outdoor events throughout California. We were one of the first mower racing groups in the state.

What Exactly is a Racing Mower?

Despite their apperance, most racing mowers share little with their stock household cousins. Most of our "mowchines" can reach speeds of up to 40MPH. As such they must be modified to handle this speed with the addition of upgraded brakes, steering, frame stiffening, and so on. The primary goal is to make sure that the mowers we race are safe. Simply put, it is not safe to put a stock mower out on the track. Trust us- these mowers take a beating so you'll want to make sure your mower will be safe out there. If you want to learn how to make you own mower, take a look at the heymow.com site.

Is it Expensive?

Well, one of the reasons we're into racing mowers is because its a lot cheaper than say- racing stock cars or even motorbikes. On average a decent racing mower can be built for under $1,000. That and many of the parts are sourced from small engine equipment and other mowers.

But before you do that, there's some info you'll need to know. First of all, every rider must wear long pants, boots, a motorcycle type helmet, goggles, gloves, and carry a fire extinguisher. Download this document and read it. If you have questions, feel free to contact us.
